‘Hello There’ … I’m artist Linda Hollingshead and join you in that connection to the landscape and the freedom it brings. The element & energy of water is an ongoing painting theme with the limestone scenery of The Yorkshire Dales an important lifelong presence in my life.
The majority of my working world is spent outside immersed in this land of never-ending variety. Whether on a lofty hilltop, deep inside a cave, or feeling the energy from a roaring waterfall, my paintings aim to reflect all of these experiences and distill the essence of place on canvas.

Want to know my process?
- Dancing between realism & abstraction I build layer on layer, capturing the vibrancy, dynamism and depth. As out in the landscape using all senses I become still & silent allowing myself to attune and really absorb the energy and feelings of a place, the land in all seasons, weather & light. From a colour sketch springboard I jump right in! Working intuitively with lots of speed and energy on canvas allowing the painting to evolve. A range of mediums are used, watercolour, acrylic, ink, markers, collage-anything to hand. Paint dribbled, splattered, scratched!
What make these paintings special?
- Using water collected from waterfalls-I mix the paint with this.
- Particles of limestone and fossils found on site sensitively incorporated in the layers of paint.
- Look closely to find a 3D ammonite, a nod to the geology of the region.
The result?...
- Something extra than a visual representation.
- Having one of my pieces on your wall will bring the drama of towering hillsides, plunging waterfalls, or your favorite view inside your home, invigorating both you and it with the positive energies drawn from The Dales.

In this painting life I spent 5 years of study at Art College – Bradford College of Art, Somerset College of Arts & Technology, Post Graduate course at Birmingham Polytechnic. C&G. Sales Marketing & Management. PTLLS Teaching Certificate- Bristol.
Running my business Linda Hollingshead Fine Art & Design since the 1990’s had led to me working with a variety of clients, organizations and corporate sectors.
